The Power of Confession (iii)

As we continue our series on ‘The Power of Confession,’ this week we focus on the power of confessing God’s Word. Revelation 12 tells us of a war that broke out in heaven, showing us that even in heaven, angelic beings are prepared for war. And just as the children of Israel faced continuous battles from the time they left Egypt, and even after they reached the Promised Land, we too are built for spiritual warfare. The Bible tells us that in this war, “Michael and his angels fought with the dragon; and the dragon and his angels fought” (Revelations 12:7). Although he was the archangel responsible for warfare, Michael did not fight alone; he fought with his community of angels. God Himself exists in a community—the Father, the Son, and the Holy Spirit. Therefore, we should not be deceived into thinking we can thrive without a strong spiritual community – victory over Satan is not achieved in isolation, but within a community of believers. As we read on, we see that the dragon and his angels “did not prevail, nor was a place found for them in heaven any longer. So the great dragon was cast out, that serpent of old … who deceives the whole world; he was cast to the earth, and his angels were cast out with him” (vs.8-9). Saints, when we confront devils, we cast them out with the sword of the Spirit, which is the Word of God (Ephesians 6:17).

Apostle John continues, saying, “Then I heard a loud voice saying in heaven, ‘Now salvation, and strength, and the kingdom of our God, and the power of His Christ have come, for the accuser of our brethren, who accused them before our God day and night, has been cast down’ “ (Revelation 12:10). Satan accuses us day and night, using words against us. These accusations can take root as negative thoughts in our minds, which is why the Bible urges us to meditate on God’s Word day and night (Joshua 1:8). And though Satan accused the brethren non-stop, we read that “they overcame him by the blood of the Lamb and by the word of their testimony, and they did not love their lives to the death” (vs.11). This emphasizes how we overcome through speaking – first, by the blood of Jesus, which “speaks better things than that of Abel” (Hebrews 12:24), and secondly, by testifying of God’s goodness. Overcoming Satan also requires humility and a willingness to lay down our lives for Christ. We must be teachable, and willing to surrender our vulnerabilities to God and His Word, so that Satan will not have any hold over us. We must avoid speaking carelessly, as this opens the door for the enemy to attack. Proverbs 6:2 warns us against such, saying, “You are snared by the words of your mouth.” Negative words can entrap us into stagnation and halt our progress. Therefore, we must watch what we say. Our heritage as believers is to be the prophet of our own lives, using our words to speak life and quickly reject words spoken against us before they take root (Isaiah 54:17).

To enforce our victory in all battles, we must consistently speak God’s Word and confess His Truth until we see the full manifestation of what we desire. When we experience ‘God winks’ – those small signs of progress – we must recognize them as part of the process, even if they seem far from the final result. The prophet Jeremiah reminds us that God watches over His Word to perform it (Jeremiah 1:12), but we must keep speaking the Word with fervor until it manifests fully. Mark 4:26-29 describes the Kingdom of God as a seed planted in the ground, growing unseen until it eventually sprouts and produces a harvest. The manifestation is always in stages – first the blade, then the ear, after that the full corn in the ear (vs.28). And just as the farmer doesn’t panic when a seed doesn’t immediately sprout, we too must patiently endure, understanding that this period is for us to grow, mature, and build capacity. Therefore, let us continue to confess the Word of God until we see the tangible evidence of its manifestation. Let us keep speaking the Word until it brings forth fruit in our lives.

Prayer

Heavenly Father, we thank You for the power of Your Word. Thank You, that through Christ Jesus, we have already conquered every battle we face. We continue to enforce this victory by confessing Your Truth with boldness, speaking words that align with Your promises, and trusting that we will see them manifest. In Jesus’ name, Amen!
