This week, we reflect on the vision the Lord has given us as Glorious Church, renewing our commitment to the values that define us and reminding ourselves of all that we stand for. Proverbs 29:18 reminds us that “where there is no vision, the people perish …” This scripture highlights the importance of clear direction and purpose to guide and propel us forward. Similarly, Habakkuk 2:2 instructs us to “write the vision and make it plain on tablets, that he may run who reads it.” Without vision, we risk losing focus and falling short of our God-given calling. As a church, we are grateful that the Lord has entrusted us with a specific vision and pattern to follow – one that is Word-based and God-centered, ensuring that everything we do aligns with His will. Our name, Glorious Church, is inspired by Scripture: “Glorious things are spoken of you, O city of God” (Psalms 87:3) and “that He might sanctify and cleanse her with the washing of water by the word, that He might present her to Himself a glorious church, not having spot or wrinkle” (Ephesians 5:26-27). Therefore, everything we do reflects our commitment to becoming a church prepared for the return of our Lord Jesus Christ – holy, pure, and without blemish.
Living out God’s Word is at the heart of our identity. We believe that transformation comes not just from hearing the Word, but from applying it in our daily lives. James 1:22 exhorts us, saying, “Be doers of the word, and not hearers only.” Saints, it is not enough to simply hear the Word; we must apply it to experience its life-changing power and see tangible results. The Apostle James urges us to “lay apart all filthiness and superfluity of naughtiness, and receive with meekness the engrafted word, which is able to save our souls” (vs.21). This means setting aside worry, anxiety, and worldly cares, and instead humbly accepting what the Word says, regardless of our feelings. By receiving the Word with humility, we allow it to work deeply in us, transforming our thoughts, emotions, and behaviors. As Hebrews 4:12 reminds us, “the word of God is living and powerful, and sharper than any two-edged sword, piercing even to the division of soul and spirit, and of joints and marrow, and is a discerner of the thoughts and intents of the heart.” The Word of God does not just address surface-level symptoms; it targets the root to bring about lasting change.
At Glorious Church, we are passionate about discipleship and community. The Great Commission commands us to “make disciples of all nations” (Matthew 28:19-20), and by the scriptures, we understand that disciples are more than just converts. The Lord Jesus said to those who believed in Him, “If you abide in My word, you are My disciples indeed” (John 8:31). This highlights the importance of living in fellowship with the Word. Therefore, we are committed to raising devoted disciples of Christ, not just attracting converts. Community plays a vital role in this process. Real transformation happens when we are integrated into a healthy, God-honoring community. This is why we prioritize Life Groups – smaller gatherings where we break bread, the Word of God, to understand it better. Inspired by the practice of the early church of meeting “from house to house” (Acts 2:46), Life Groups foster spiritual growth, accountability, and unity. Meeting regularly in these smaller settings creates an environment where faith is nurtured and relationships are strengthened.
2 Timothy 3:16 reminds us that “All Scripture is given by inspiration of God and is profitable for doctrine, for reproof, for correction, for instruction in righteousness.” Sound doctrine is the bedrock of our faith. Life Groups offer a platform to deeply explore doctrine, share insights, and learn from one another. This is how we instill the DNA and values of the church, ensuring that we remain aligned and move forward in unity. Thus, the language of the house is that of faith and grace – we speak God’s Word with boldness and conviction, not adding to or subtracting from it (Deuteronomy 4:2 and 12:32). As disciples, we also believe in being balanced, especially in the area of financial stewardship, which is essential for accessing the true riches of God’s Kingdom. Luke 16:10 warns, “if you have not been faithful in the unrighteous mammon, who will commit to your trust the true riches?”, teaching us that managing resources well reflects our readiness to handle greater spiritual responsibilities. As a church, we strive to cultivate hearts that are open to both instruction and correction. We believe every disciple must be faithful, available, and teachable – these qualities position us for spiritual growth and maturity. This is why the Apostle Paul instructed Timothy to entrust God’s teachings to faithful men who would be able to teach others also (2 Timothy 2:2). Discipleship is costly; it requires commitment, sacrifice, time, and resources; but it equips us to understand our position in Christ, align our perspective with God’s Truth, follow Biblical principles with soberness, and put them into practice more effectively.
Church, let us remain fully committed to the vision that God has entrusted to us. Don’t merely tolerate the vision – be excited and fully committed to it. And together, let us continue advancing His Kingdom, raising faithful disciples who will impact the world.
Prayer
Dear Heavenly Father, We thank You for the vision that you have given us as a church. Thank You for Your life-changing Word, which strengthens our faith and deepens our convictions. Help us to be faithful, available, and teachable disciples, fully committed to advancing Your Kingdom. In Jesus’ name, Amen!
